I may be the only person besides Brooks himself who thinks The Twelve Chairs is his best film.

Re: Young Frankenstein (1974)

I'm completely biased about Bonnie and Clyde, but still, it's wonderful to see all those Gene Wilder trademarks in his first movie. In spite of being so attached to it, I don't know all that much...

Re: Young Frankenstein (1974)

Yeah, can't agree with you here, Don.  There is some unnecessary hitting-over-the-head comedy in the film, but the instances you mention are not among them, imho.  Each of them is comedy in itself,...

Re: Young Frankenstein (1974)

I might also mention that the stage musical of Young Frankenstein (I had a blast when I saw it!) has even more of those sorts of dialogue exchanges, particularly between Dr. Frankenstein and Igor. I...

I wasn't objecting to dialogue per se, only to using it to restate a joke for the slower learners, hoping that it will sink in this time.

Re: Young Frankenstein (1974)

Well, I guess that Brooks could have gotten Hackman to repeat five or six variations on the line, one after another, until somebody thought it was funny . . . .
